COMPTON AGRIHOOD
There are two types of housing: rental apartments and townhomes for sale, both targeted for moderate income levels. The goal is to provide access and equity to both homeownership and the urban agricultural lifestyle. Amenities include a community vegetable garden and orchard, private chicken coops, and the option for a horse stable in the equestrian center.
The Compton Multi-Cultural Equestrian Center, of which this housing development is a part of, is comprised of two main elements: community-serving program and equestrian-based recreation. A Community Center and a Rodeo Arena are the main features, with many additional support and open space facilities. It is a combination of private and non-profit ventures coming together to create a dynamic campus that serves the Compton community as well as preserves its agricultural and equestrian roots. The roughly 160-acres of Richland Farms - an agricultural zoned housing community of ranches - is just 1.3 miles from the site, in the heart of the southern Los Angeles region. To further support the preservation of this agricultural lifestyle, the housing component creates a unique and affordable typology for its residents.
The apartments are planned to serve both individuals and families at affordable pricing, to support that stepping stone towards homeownership. A variety of unit types, form one-bedrooms to three-bedrooms, are provided, as well as community rooms and roof decks.
The townhomes are uniquely designed to create higher density within a roughly one-acre site area, which include the community gardens. They range from three-bedroom to four-bedroom options, supporting multi-generational families. Each features a private roof deck and backyard.
