PROGRAM: Historic renovation and restoration of multi-family building
WILLIAM PENN APARTMENTS
Formerly the William Penn Hotel, this project is a renovation and restoration of an historic, 6-story brick building on 8th Street in Los Angeles. The historic 1914 façade has been restored with concrete formwork and custom made, steel-frame windows. The existing courtyard was refreshed with new finishes and furnishings.
The interiors are a contemporary reinterpretation of the whimsical eclecticism of early 20th century California, with color and exotic details setting the mood through new light fixtures, custom-designed furniture, and a complete restoration of the historic walls and moldings. All 189 micro-units were renovated, as well as the ground floor lobby and amenity spaces.
