Hillcrest Restaurant
The proposed 6400 sf Lusion space on the ground floor of the Hillcrest Lofts contains a seamless restaurant, bar, lounge, retail area and café/wine bar.
There were two unique design challenges, the programming, and the aesthetic.
The programming has to be flexible, as the operator envisions the space as all of the above, but able to convert for events. The aesthetic challenge was defining the space with Projections & LED screens augmented by rich, tactile furnishings.
The programming is fluid, blending at the edges – coffee or drinks can be had in the lounge area, the bar can support dining, the customer can peruse the retail while waiting for a table, etc. As these contiguous spaces are intended for all hours, defining the aesthetic needed to also be continuous, but with depth, thus a series of full height and localized area projections/ screens.
The projected content will be defined by the operator, with changing conditions for breakfast, lunch, dinner, lounge, punctuated by sporting events. The shifting content required a tactile and ergonomic aesthetic in the lighting and furnishings. Due to the space having an industrial base (concrete and steel) we designed the areas touched, namely the furniture and accessory items (sales-shelving, bar, etc.) to be rich in texture and color, at a relatively uniform height. While not ubiquitous, the space will have an undertone of “glam” and lustrous texture that will soften the industrial nature and blend with any aesthetic that appears on the projection and LED walls.
