FEAR OF GOD
This warehouse conversion involved exterior improvements and interior architecture to set a neutral space for the headquarters of an iconic fashion brand to design and display its merchandise in Downtown Los Angeles’ Arts District.
The Fear of God studio project contributes to the growing business community of the LA Fashion District, it addresses neighborhood safety challenges at night with its purposely non-descript black-painted brick and no identifying signage. In terms of sustainability, strategies were put in place to maximize re-use, minimize waste, and reduce the building's embodied and operational carbon footprints. The building was repurposed instead of being demolished, and more energy-efficient windows were installed along its façade. Maintaining clerestory lighting for natural light and using Energy Star appliances and low-flow plumbing fixtures further reduced the building's operational costs and carbon footprint, making it a sustainable development that sets a positive example for future projects
BDG worked with the owner and lead designer of Fear of God, Jerry Lorenzo, to create a small city-like atmosphere where creativity and introspection can happen alongside direct business responsibilities without interrupting each other. The goal to have small enclaves of aesthetically neutral spaces was reached by carefully addressing the function and programmatic necessities of each space.
